2028 Olympic Torch Relay Set to Start in Atlanta and Journey Through All 50 States Before Reaching Los Angeles

2028 Los Angeles Olympics Torch Relay Announced

The torch relay for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics will kick off in Atlanta, marking the city that hosted the last U.S. Summer Games in 1996. This significant event will see the Olympic flame journey through all 50 states in a grand tour set to begin in spring 2028.

Key Highlights:

  • The Olympic flame will be ignited in Olympia, Greece—the historic birthplace of the Olympic Games—before starting its U.S. journey.
  • LA28 organizers anticipate that this relay will be one of the largest in Olympic history, featuring routes through iconic landmarks and cultural events.
  • Celebratory festivals will be hosted in select cities along the way.

LA28 chair and president Casey Wasserman expressed, “Every Olympic Games begins with a single flame… as Americans in all 50 states carry the flame on its path to our Opening Ceremony.”

Atlanta’s Mayor Andre Dickens reflected on the significance of the flame returning to the U.S. after 32 years, emphasizing Atlanta’s growth and connection to the world in preparation for this prestigious event.

Additionally, a Paralympic torch relay will commence after the Olympics in August 2028, starting from Stoke Mandeville, England. Details about its U.S. launch will be revealed later.

Both the Olympic and Paralympic torch relays will be sponsored by Coca-Cola, JPMorgan Chase, Allstate, and Xfinity.
