THE RUNDOWN
- Sarah Jessica Parker attended the New York City Ballet’s Fall Fashion Gala.
- Parker discussed her stance on using items from Carrie Bradshaw’s wardrobe.
- She mentioned that while she occasionally wears items from the archive, it is not a regular occurrence.
For six seasons of Sex and the City, Carrie Bradshaw’s wardrobe became iconic, featuring items like Manolo Blahnik heels and Fendi bags. Despite having access to this wardrobe, Sarah Jessica Parker maintains a clear distinction between her personal style and Carrie’s outfits.
At the gala on October 1, Parker explained her reasons for keeping her wardrobe separate from Carrie’s. “I don’t wear any of the wardrobe that I wore on the show ever,” she stated. “I have it, it’s an archive, but I never wear it.”
She emphasized that the clothing belongs to a character and often represents unique moments in the show’s history. “There’s just a huge separation between myself and Carrie Bradshaw,” she explained, comparing it to wearing a costume.
Although Parker has occasionally used pieces for special occasions, she’s cautious about the conditions under which she does so. She recounted one instance where she spontaneously wore a piece to a birthday party, highlighting her careful consideration regarding the integrity of the costume.
In And Just Like That…, Carrie’s relationship with fashion continues to be a driving narrative, but Parker has no desire to blend her life with that of her character. “Despite the fact that we look a lot alike,” she remarked, “she is wonderfully and radically different than me.”
