Peoria police have successfully utilized license plate reader technology to apprehend a suspected sex trafficker and recover two victims, including a missing 15-year-old girl. The girl was reported missing on September 14 and evidence suggested she may have been trafficked. The Special Victims Unit tracked her down in Indio, California, where she identified 32-year-old Donte Lofton Jr. as her alleged trafficker.
Authorities discovered Lofton had rented a vehicle and entered the license plate information into an automated system. Within hours, Arizona Department of Public Safety officers located the car in Heber, nearly 400 miles away from where the girl was found. Police arrested Lofton, who now faces charges in two states. They also rescued an adult woman believed to be another trafficking victim.
