Disney Dismisses Speculation About Acquiring Epic Games

Disney has denied rumors about acquiring Epic Games, the developer behind Fortnite. In a recent interview, Disney’s president and chief creative officer, Dana Walden, clarified that while there were earlier discussions about investing in Epic, the company is not pursuing an acquisition at this time.

Disney had previously acquired a $1.5 billion stake in Epic in early 2024, establishing a partnership that aims to leverage Disney’s franchises within Fortnite. Walden emphasized the importance of their ongoing relationship and hinted at significant upcoming collaborations over the next two years.

While some speculated that Disney executives were considering going all in on an acquisition, Walden’s statements suggest a focus on strengthening their partnership instead. Recent reports indicate that Epic is developing new projects, including a Disney-themed extraction shooter set to launch in November 2026.

As Disney collaborates with Epic, there are more exciting developments on the horizon, with various launches expected that strengthen their partnership, although an acquisition remains off the table for now.
