Community Support for The Source Feeding Program
Westover, WV – The Source, a weekend feeding initiative for children in need, recently received a significant boost with a donation of $324,412.88 from Northeast Natural Energy. Rev. Kevin Cain, founder of the program and Kingdom: a Community Church, expressed his gratitude, emphasizing the importance of community collaboration.
The Source, established in 2010, provides nutritional snacks for 600 local children over weekends. This funding, generated from the company’s inaugural Charity Golf Classic, will sustain the program for an entire year. Rev. Cain highlighted the issue of food insecurity in Monongalia County, where many children lack adequate meals during weekends when school cafeterias are closed.
According to Feeding America, about 1 in 5 children in West Virginia experience food scarcity, with around 2,000 children in Mon County identified as food insecure. Through initiatives like The Source, local efforts aim to combat childhood hunger in the region.
