Shawano County Dispatch Advises Drivers to Get Ready for Winter Travel – TCH Daily News

Shawano County Prepares for Winter Weather

As colder weather approaches, the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office urges drivers to prepare for changing road conditions. Billie Jo Baneck, the Communications and Dispatch Coordinator, highlights that dispatchers are proactively planning for potential winter storms and their impact on local roads.

Baneck emphasizes the importance of vehicle readiness and staying informed about the weather. “Make sure they’re prepared with their vehicles, prepared with how they travel, when they travel,” she advises, reminding motorists not to underestimate the challenges of winter driving.

Drivers are also encouraged to heed official warnings about avoiding travel during severe weather to facilitate emergency response efforts. Keeping unnecessary traffic off the roads allows first responders to assist those in genuine need more effectively.

Another pressing concern is callers who cannot identify their location when seeking emergency help. While modern technology can often assist 911 in locating a caller, Baneck cautions against relying solely on it during emergencies.

She encourages drivers to be mindful of their surroundings, including road names, mile markers, and travel direction, as this information can greatly assist dispatchers in coordinating responses. Knowing these details can lead to quicker assistance during critical situations.
