PS5 Pro’s major graphics enhancement appears to be a true game changer.

Sony’s PS5 Pro is rolling out a significant graphics upgrade with the introduction of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). This is an AI-driven technology that enhances game visuals by analyzing images pixel by pixel. The new version, referred to as PSSR 2.0, was first showcased in Capcom’s Resident Evil Requiem, demonstrating notable improvements in image clarity and detail, such as more defined hair textures.

Mark Cerny, lead architect of the PS5, highlighted the advancements in this new PSSR, which preserves both frame rates and image quality. The technology stems from Sony’s partnership with AMD, paralleling the experiences PC gamers have with AMD’s FSR 4 upscaling.

Capcom’s Masaru Ijuin emphasized that the upgraded RE Engine facilitates sophisticated rendering techniques, allowing for realistic movements of intricate details like hair. Players can enable enhanced PSSR image quality in their settings on compatible titles to experience these improvements.
