As we continue our fundraising efforts, we invite those who support our mission to contribute. If you’re ready to contribute, simply visit our fundraiser page!
Thanks to your generous support, we have successfully achieved our first six goals: enhancing essential IT, maintaining the comments section, introducing the new Coffee Break/Sunday links features, providing bonuses for our dedicated writers, continuing our expanded Links, and implementing burnout prevention measures.
However, we still have a long way to go. We must reach a stable financial position for the coming year. Please consider contributing by visiting the Tip Jar.
Our seventh objective is to finance more original reporting. You might wonder why this goal is listed last. Shouldn’t we have prioritized it earlier?
In reality, achieving the previous targets is essential for sustaining the site. For example, rewarding our regular writers is crucial not only to acknowledge their commitment but also to attract talented writers like Haig, Nat, and Curro.
Readers consistently express their appreciation for Naked Capitalism’s incisive coverage of financial, economic, and, increasingly, geopolitical issues, along with the power dynamics that influence these areas.
While we have received tremendous support from our readers, we are still in catch-up mode regarding donations. If you haven’t contributed yet, please consider doing so! The Tip Jar awaits your support. From amfortas:
I don’t remember how I discovered this place… perhaps around the 2008 GFC (I don’t really keep track of time, as it were, lol). I lingered for a while, as is my nature. My first comments might have centered on organic/regenerative agriculture and the unconventional projects I pursue on the farm. But you all were there for me and Tam when she fell ill, and I will never forget that. Those threads are preserved in my diary entries from that time, ongoing. I wish I had more to contribute. For those who can spare a little extra, please show your support by visiting the tip jar.
From wetware_antenna:
Keep up the excellent work! Thank you for providing this critical space as a refuge from the madness and ignorance of the world. Godspeed!
And from Roxan:
My check is in the mail, but it doesn’t truly reflect the value of what NC provides! Thank you for all your hard work!
And from IowanX:
Congratulations on maintaining the best website on the planet! $100 is the most I can manage this year.
One of the key reasons we’ve been able to excel is the high-quality input we receive from our community.
While this site plays an important role in analyzing and providing expert insights into news stories, our most significant impact has been through original reporting. Few sites have effectively pressured officials to resign, starting with Andrew Bowden of the SEC, who sought a job for his son among those he regulates.
We’ve also catalyzed industry-wide changes in private equity by compelling CalPERS to disclose its significant fees. Hubert Horan’s series on Uber prompted journalists to finally scrutinize the ride-sharing company’s financial health. More recently, Lambert’s persistent coverage of COVID-19 highlighted the airborne nature of the virus, prompting members of the community to adopt layered defense strategies that many believe saved lives.
Conor has explored new perspectives, such as the role of South Africa in global trade. Nick has been vigilant about the war on cash and the implications of digital ID initiatives. KLG has documented significant medical advancements, including debunking misleading claims, and the repercussions of Trump’s policies on scientific practices. Curro provided insights from BRICS 2025, while Haig has examined the intersections of military contracting, fraud, and ethical dilemmas. Nat, in collaboration with Conor and Nick, has investigated the influence of tech billionaires and emerging political alliances amid genocide fractures.
We want to amplify our original reporting, but we understand why traditional journalists hold bloggers in low regard: an originally researched story requires four to ten times more effort than a blog post based on commentary and analysis. For instance, we previously published an example from the Columbia Journalism Review:
In today’s economic climate, approving resource-intensive, in-depth reports that might attract less traffic than lighter articles is increasingly uncommon. A recent Mother Jones report featured a senior reporter working four months as a corrections officer. The comprehensive 35,000-word investigative piece uncovered corruption in private prisons, but it cost approximately $350,000 to produce and generated only $5,000 in advertising revenue.
While Naked Capitalism readers appreciate substantial content, original reporting is not only markedly labor-intensive; it also involves pursuing leads that may not pan out and can incur significant costs, such as legal fees for Freedom of Information Act requests.
In short, original reporting is both costly and increasingly necessary as mainstream media faces budget constraints and grows less fearless overall.
Our target for expanding original reporting is $45,000, and we are currently $1,730 toward that goal.
We sincerely thank those of you who have already contributed, and we look forward to welcoming new supporters who have just discovered our fundraiser. Every bit helps to elevate the quality and success of our site.
