In today’s chaotic world, maintaining mental balance can feel like a full-time job, lacking any perks or benefits. However, we have Naked Capitalism to guide us through the noise!
Naked Capitalism offers a lifeline, keeping us informed about the true state of affairs beyond superficial headlines, misleading news, and artificial intelligence distortions. It provides deep analysis of intricate issues, while creating a community where individuals can vent, exchange thoughts, and connect with others who share their perspectives.
This platform is invaluable, acting as a much-needed release in an increasingly mad world. Please consider contributing to the Tip Jar and donate whatever you can. Amounts of $5, $50, or even $5,000 are all meaningful. If you can only spare a little, that’s perfectly fine; if you’re in a position to give more, we welcome that too.
Since its inception in 2006, Naked Capitalism has emerged as a key resource for economic commentary and analysis, particularly during the Global Financial Crisis and the European Debt Crisis. As people grappled with the reality of failing banks and economic uncertainty, the site became a beacon of understanding.
The underlying issues from that crisis have yet to be adequately addressed. Over time, the focus of this blog has broadened to encompass a variety of crises—covering politics, healthcare, science, academia, and the environment, and increasingly, geopolitics. Naked Capitalism has honed its craft in delivering straightforward, insightful coverage across a spectrum of urgent matters.
Whether it’s Grexit, Brexit, COVID, the AI bubble, or escalating wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, Naked Capitalism has illuminated the forces that complicate our lives and amplify dangers in the world. The incisive, often witty analysis provides a critical counter to the rampant madness enveloping us.
To sustain this essential service, we need your support! Help foster thoughtful discourse and independent thinking. Embrace your frustrations and enjoy daily moments of delight, like the site’s daily dose of adorable animals. Please visit the Tip Jar and give generously.
The past two decades have certainly presented us with “interesting times” — with the 2008 financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic standing out. However, the last year has taken “interesting” to unprecedented heights. Just consider the events…
In February, Trump made history as the first U.S. president to succumb to Israeli pressure, initiating a precarious war against Iran. This conflict, as many predicted, poses grave risks to the global economy and could lead to severe shortages of energy and food worldwide.
Yves’ frequent updates on Gulf War 3.0 have provided some of the most insightful economic assessments of the conflict available online. Her reports consistently cover the military, logistical, and geopolitical ramifications of this war.
We all share a deep-seated need to understand a conflict that impacts us all, whether we approve or not. There is a powerful thirst for information and comprehension, and Yves delivers on both counts.
However, her daily updates require immense time and energy, piled on top of her other responsibilities. Please consider supporting her efforts. Whether it’s $5, $50, or $5,000, your contributions through our Tip Jar are invaluable.
As previously noted, the war against Iran is largely being fought at the behest of Israel. Yet, pushing beyond merely igniting conflict in the Gulf, the Netanyahu government has escalated its campaigns of ethnic cleansing in southern Lebanon and the West Bank, largely unchallenged by the liberal democratic order.
For eight decades, the state of Israel has decimated Palestinian villages. Now, it is doing the same to communities in Southern Lebanon, not merely destroying settlements but obliterating deep-rooted historical legacies.
We’ve witnessed these atrocities play out in real time for three agonizing years, feeling powerless to effectuate change, making us reluctant witnesses to profound evil—so severe it went unnamed until the Nazis. Furthermore, we are acutely aware that Israel’s actions in the Middle East may be emulated elsewhere.
This burdensome knowledge weighs heavy, even on the strongest minds. Through Naked Capitalism, we can at least share this load. Commenters frequently express gratitude for having a place to articulate their concerns and fears, finding comfort in the shared experience.
Preserving such a space is crucial. We need your assistance. Please contribute what you can—$5, $50, or $5,000—through our Tip Jar.
What else has transpired in the past twelve months?
We’ve seen the U.S. invade Venezuela, illegitimately detain its president, and lay claim to the nation’s resources under the pretense of benevolence towards its people.
U.S. forces have inflicted violence upon fishermen in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific while enforcing a near-total blockade on Cuba, causing immense loss of life and livelihood—again, all for the “good” of the Cuban populace.
Trump has boldly declared his intent to extend U.S. control, envisioning a protectorate model that encompasses North and Central America, the Caribbean, and Greenland.
It must be emphasized how insane this is:
Trump is openly threatening to colonize and annex Mexico, Canada, Greenland, Cuba, and several other Caribbean countries. This is not just an empty threat. He’s already at war with Iran.

This “Trump 2.0” aggressive imperialism has dashed any hopes, however naive, of a dignified decline for the U.S. empire. Instead, it seems intent on a dramatic exit, bringing the rest of the world along for the ride.
The ultimate MADness—the use of nuclear weapons in conventional warfare—is becoming less of a taboo. As The Economist (of all publications) recently reported, global leaders are losing their fear of nuclear conflict—this includes not just Trump and Netanyahu.
The last year has also proven to be a tumultuous journey for internet users. On one hand, more jurisdictions are necessitating age verification to access online content, a step that whispers of mandatory digital identity.
If governments succeed in this endeavor, we could witness the erosion of online privacy and anonymity. For those in power—the financial and corporate elite—there’s a straightforward rationale behind these measures rooted in control. For the rest of us, it is alarming and infuriating to see this unfold.
Much of this is happening beneath the radar.
The unrestricted privatization of governmental functions by billionaires like Peter Thiel and Marc Andreessen looms large.
Additionally, the rise of data centers, threatening global electricity systems and water supplies, will also establish the framework for a comprehensive digital surveillance state encircling us.
Meanwhile, the architects behind AI are embedding it more deeply into our lives. The aggressive scraping of the internet by AI bots is complicating matters for content creators, as Yves pointed out in her September 8th Iran War Update:
Today’s Iran war post launched not complete due to AI. This is why I hate AI with the passion of a thousand burning suns. AI bots were scraping the site so hard that it was barely operating. Our tech maven, Dave, had to implement extra security measures, which impeded my ability to publish posts…
This is theft and vandalism. Those of you who utilize AI are stealing from me and countless other writers and journalists, as well as contributing to environmental destruction through excessive energy consumption. STOP NOW.
All of these developments are gradually making life on our planet more challenging and less sustainable. Fortunately, they have been dissected and analyzed with care by Naked Capitalism’s committed team of writers and contributors.
In a world veering towards madness, Naked Capitalism serves as a refuge—a safe haven for those who seek clarity in the chaos. It is ultimately a platform for thoughtful discourse. Such spaces are exceedingly rare and invaluable. As Hannah Arendt wisely noted, “evil arises from a failure to think.”
This website fosters a nurturing environment for ideas and discussions, thanks to its clear engagement protocols and the dedicated efforts of site moderators. These guidelines have cultivated a civil discourse atmosphere, even amidst divisive times—a quality we anticipate will be essential in the coming year.
Over the past twenty years, this site has cultivated a vibrant, global community of like-minded individuals, many of whom, albeit virtually, exhibit intelligence, curiosity, and open-mindedness. As Yves previously highlighted, this community is vital in sharing a wealth of knowledge and skills:
[It] shares knowledge and ideas intensively, ranging from electoral processes to electricity grid management, new pharmaceuticals, home repairs, and language learning tips.
People visit the site for numerous reasons, including its diverse coverage, astute analysis, independent thought, high-quality community engagement, accurate early warnings, and—of course—its delightful dose of cute animals.
Some individuals arrive seeking and providing kindness and solidarity—two increasingly scarce resources. Although they may never meet face-to-face, members of this community share a unique bond. In these tumultuous times, their supportive words can be invaluable.
This sense of community is truly priceless. If fortune has smiled upon you, please consider donating generously on our fundraising page, not only for yourself but to support those facing financial strain. You can also contribute by sharing posts with friends and colleagues, participating in discussions, and suggesting links. Every bit of support counts!
