850 Jobs at Risk as Maverick Plans 8 Washington Casino Closures
Maverick Gaming is set to close eight additional casinos in Washington on November 30, impacting 850 jobs amid ongoing bankruptcy proceedings. The company filed Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notices with the Washington Employment Security Department regarding these closures.
The affected casinos include:
- Great American Casino (Everett)
- Three casinos in Lakewood
- All Star Casino (Silverdale)
- Casino Caribbean (Yakima)
- Crazy Moose Casino (Pasco)
- Coyote Bob’s Casino (Kennewick)
While the closures are anticipated, Maverick indicated they might not be permanent, as the company is in Chapter 11 and ownership changes could modify the closure timeline.
Previously, Maverick shut down the Great American Casino and Riverside Casino in Tukwila on November 1, resulting in an additional 238 job losses. Overall, this could lead to over 1,200 job cuts in Washington during 2026.
Maverick’s Financial Troubles Follow Years of Rapid Expansion
Maverick filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July 2025 with assets and liabilities between $100 million and $500 million. This filing followed a challenging phase for the operator, highlighted by the withdrawal of its credit ratings by S&P Global Ratings in June 2025.
The company has grown rapidly in Washington, Nevada, and Colorado through strategic acquisitions, including the $80.5 million purchase of Evergreen Gaming Corporation in 2022. However, the recent wave of shutdowns could significantly diminish its footprint in Washington, although potential sales during bankruptcy proceedings might preserve some jobs and properties.
Currently, Maverick continues to operate in Washington, Nevada, and Colorado as it navigates its financial challenges. The outcomes of the bankruptcy process will ultimately dictate the number of closures that occur.
