The Austin Parks Department is initiating a touching project to honor pets at Austin Community Park. The Pet Rainbow Bridge, which connects the walking trail to the dog park, will serve as a memorial for beloved pets.
Key Features:
- Design: A wooden bridge painted in rainbow colors.
- Memorial Plates: For a $25 donation, individuals can have a brass plate engraved with their name and their pet’s name, affixed to the bridge’s railing.
- Personal Memorabilia: Pet owners are encouraged to attach items like collars and name tags to the bridge as part of the memorial.
- Funding: Proceeds will cover the bridge’s costs, and any extra funds will benefit the Scott County Humane Society, with future donations split equally between the park and the society.
Construction started recently, and interested individuals can purchase a brass plate by visiting Austin City Hall. Parks and Recreation Board President Ishmael White expressed excitement about the project, emphasizing the importance of remembering the love and comfort pets provide us.
