Carbon Coffee Lounge: A Neighborhood Gem in Lincoln, NE
Nestled at the intersection of 34th and A Street, Carbon Coffee Lounge has quickly become a beloved spot for coffee enthusiasts and locals alike. Opened in 2023 by Jennifer Lage and her husband Terry, the lounge has filled a community need for high-quality coffee and inviting spaces.
Community Feedback
Upon purchasing the strip mall where the coffee shop now resides, the Lages actively engaged with neighborhood residents to determine what was needed. “A lot of suggestions or thoughts like, ‘This area needs a coffee shop or needs food,’” Jennifer recalled, emphasizing their commitment to community input.
Expertise and Quality
With a passion for coffee motivated by a friendly suggestion and extensive research, Jennifer partnered with Onyx Coffee Lab, a specialty roaster from Arkansas. “We are so fortunate… they are our exclusive roaster,” she noted, underscoring the importance of quality in their offerings.
Barista Standards
Carbon Coffee Lounge prides itself on its knowledgeable barista staff, who share a commitment to excellence. “For Onyx, their tagline is ‘never settle for good enough’ and that is our standard here,” Jennifer stated, ensuring that every customer receives a great coffee experience.
Engaging the Community
Many locals, like Julie York, have become regular customers. Julie stumbled upon the shop while driving by and said, “Once I did, I was hooked.” The shop also participates in community events, including summer DJs, live music, and collaborations with organizations like the Food Bank of Lincoln.
Celebrating Success
On September 19, Carbon Coffee celebrated its first anniversary with festivities that exceeded expectations. “Our hearts were so full… It was beyond our expectations,” Jennifer reflected on the day.
Future Plans
Looking ahead, the Lages plan to transform a home behind the coffee shop into a lounge with extended hours, grab-and-go food, alcoholic beverages, and more community events, aiming for an early 2027 completion. “The area is sleepy right now, and we want to wake it up,” Jennifer declared.
