The No. 16 Penn State Nittany Lions faced the top-ranked University of Nebraska Cornhuskers in an intense rematch, which took place at Rec Hall. Last year, Penn State had lost 3-0 to Nebraska, but the atmosphere was electric as the crowd filled the stands to support the home team.

Both teams exchanged early points in the first set, with Nebraska quickly taking an early lead at 6-1. Despite a spirited effort from Penn State, including strong plays from players like Kennedy Martin and Whitney Lauenstein, Nebraska maintained control and won the first set 25-20.

In the second set, Penn State started strong, quickly taking a 3-1 lead. The match remained competitive, with both teams trading points. However, Nebraska’s consistent performance from their key players allowed them to take the second set decisively at 25-17.

As the third set commenced, Penn State aimed to alter their fate, but Nebraska’s domination continued. With the score at 24-18, Penn State’s fans held their breath, but Nebraska ultimately triumphed when Ryan Hunter delivered the final kill, finishing the match 25-18.

Despite the loss, Penn State’s coach, Katie Schumacher-Cawley, noted the team’s determination and potential for future matches, including a possible rematch in the tournament. The Nittany Lions are set to return to the court on October 3 against Iowa.
