Flyers Fall to Devils in Overtime, Start Season with Two Consecutive Losses – NBC Sports Philadelphia

Flyers Fall to Devils in Overtime, Seeking Improvement After Tough Start

In their second game of the season, the Philadelphia Flyers were in desperate need of a win after suffering a heavy 7-0 loss in their opener. Unfortunately, they fell short again, losing to the New Jersey Devils 3-2 in overtime at Prudential Center.

Christian Dvorak acknowledged the need for improvement, stating, “That was maybe a little better than last game, nice to get a point. But it’s not even about the result right now. We’ve just got to be better and play our brand of hockey.”

The Flyers took an early lead with a goal from Rasmus Ristolainen, followed by a powerful third-period shot from Travis Sanheim that temporarily put them ahead 2-1. However, New Jersey responded with goals from Dougie Hamilton and Luke Hughes, capitalizing on turnovers and open opportunities.

Goaltender Joseph Woll, making his debut for the Flyers, performed admirably, stopping 41 of 44 shots and making key saves, including a spectacular stop while shorthanded in the third period.

The Flyers struggled defensively, allowing 38 shots in their previous game and needing to improve their execution and play style, according to Dvorak. Their next challenge comes against the defending champion Hurricanes on Saturday.
