Producer of Celebrity Traitors responds to “crazy incident” involving Richard E Grant’s blunder in the season 2 debut.

The Celebrity Traitors is back on our screens, and the new season is generating excitement. This year’s lineup features several familiar faces, plunging into paranoia as the Traitors eliminate Faithful contestants one by one.

The season premiered with a dramatic start: Claudia Winkleman emerged from a coffin, presenting shields to Julie Hesmondhalgh and Joe Lycett, protecting them from the first murder. The initial Traitors were revealed as Maya Jama from Love Island and actor Richard E Grant.

Maya opted for a strategy of using her “welcoming energy” to hide her true identity, while Richard boldly identified himself as a Traitor among his peers. Thankfully, most contestants took his statement lightly, but in a confessional, Grant admitted it could be his biggest mistake.

Executive producer Sarah Fay shared her shock at Grant’s admission, insisting it was unprecedented in the show’s history. She expressed hope that the series remains fresh and engaging, reflecting on how each cast brings unique elements to the game.

In an exclusive event, Winkleman highlighted how thrilled Grant was to take on the Traitor role, noting his strong enthusiasm for the game. Ed Gamble, host of The Celebrity Traitors: Uncloaked podcast, described Grant as “vibrating with excitement,” suggesting it was akin to landing a leading role in a film.

The Celebrity Traitors Season 2 airs on BBC One and iPlayer at 8 PM.
