Mengyi Grace Wang’s Artwork Explores Nature as a Symbol of Cross-Cultural Identity | Highlights

Mengyi Grace Wang is a cross-cultural contemporary artist who blends modern impressionism with traditional Chinese art in her acrylic paintings, focusing on natural scenery and landscapes. Her collection, “When Modern Impressionism Meets Traditional Chinese Art,” was showcased at Costa Mesa’s ARTventure exhibition, and her solo exhibition “Blooming in Roots” runs at the Costa Mesa Senior Center until December 31, 2026.

Wang believes that nature serves as a universal metaphor allowing diverse individuals to connect. For example, she references the lotus flower, which blooms in both China and the United States, signifying a shared human experience across cultures. Her identity, shaped by her upbringing in Beijing and further education in London and the U.S., reflects her belief that identity transcends geographic boundaries.

She finds inspiration in community parks, connecting her memories and experiences with the natural world. Wang emphasizes that flowers, like identity, are not confined to one region and resonate with everyone, illustrating the beauty of cross-cultural connections.
