Washington State University’s Energy Program has introduced a new residential energy code calculator, superseding an older spreadsheet tool used by homebuilders for documenting energy code compliance.
The calculator, which can be accessed on the WSU Energy Program website, aims to simplify energy code documentation for residential construction throughout Washington.
Jonathan Jones, energy program coordinator, stated, “Our goal was to simplify residential energy code documentation. By providing users with a web-based tool, we are making it faster and easier to submit permitting documents with built-in features for guidance—similar to bowling bumpers—to keep users on track.”
This updated tool enhances the WSU Energy Program’s technical support resources and offers a user-friendly digital platform, replacing traditional spreadsheet methods. New features include:
- Calculation of window and door heat loss and overall building insulation performance.
- Accurate sizing and checks of mechanical system specifications.
- Capability to save multiple project profiles and update compliance records.
- Generation of reports needed for local building permit applications.
