The uptick in revenue is part of a broader trend, as gaming activities for the first eight months of 2026 saw an 8.85% increase over the same period in 2025.

Key Statistics:

  • Slot Machines: Up 11.23%

During August, casinos provided over $2 million in free-play incentives. After promotional deductions, the taxable gross gaming revenue reached $16.1 million, leading to $1.45 million in gaming taxes generated.

George Milos, Director of the Deadwood Gaming Association, attributed the strong attendance at the annual Kool Deadwood Nites event as a contributing factor to the successful month. This popular event attracts numerous visitors with classic cars, concerts, and various activities.

August’s performance reflects a robust year for Deadwood’s gaming sector, which plays a vital role in supporting local tourism and tax revenue for the community and western South Dakota.
