SICSA Seeks Increased Fosters and Donations Amid High Need
DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF) – Local shelters in the area are always in need of fosters and donations, and despite a successful pet food drive on Pet Hunger Awareness Day that collected over 1,000 pounds of food, SICSA still requires more.
Kaitlin Becraft, SICSA’s Communications Advocacy and Events Manager, highlighted that the organization distributes significantly more throughout the year. “We do six to eight mass food distributions annually, in addition to an on-site pet food pantry, giving out over 100,000 pounds of pet food each year,” she stated.
Demand for pet food has surged, with Becraft noting that people are arriving extremely early to secure food. “Some are waiting as early as 7:30 a.m. for a 10 a.m. start time due to desperate needs,” she remarked.
This heightened necessity for pet food aligns with human food shortages, prompting SICSA to collaborate with Miami Valley Meals to introduce Inseparable Snack Packs. These packs contain a can of wet pet food, shelf-stable human food, and first aid supplies, with the packaging serving as a food or water bowl.
Becraft explained, “Humans and animals are intrinsically bonded. If people struggle, their pets struggle too.”
The success of the Pet Food Drive guarantees its continuation, and SICSA remains open to volunteer contributions, particularly from those willing to foster large or medically complex animals.
Those interested can easily support SICSA by ordering food from their Wish List on Amazon or Chewy. Additionally, more information can be obtained on SICSA’s website.
