CicLAvia Celebrates 16 Years of Open Streets in L.A.
L.A. Metro Board Chair and Mayor Karen Bass has announced a $1 million investment into the beloved non-profit event, CicLAvia, along with other open and slow streets initiatives. This funding will support a series of free events running through July 2028, coinciding with the upcoming Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Los Angeles.
As expressed by Mayor Bass, “As a lifelong biker and native Angeleno, I know how important open and slow streets events like CicLAvia are to our city. These events connect communities, bring people together, support local businesses, and help us reimagine public spaces in the second-largest city in the country.”
What to Expect at CicLAvia
CicLAvia has been hosting open street events since 2010. These free events invite the public to walk, jog, bike, and roller skate along a 6.5-mile car-free route. Notably, electric scooters, skateboards, and other motorized vehicles are prohibited, ensuring a safe environment for all participants.
Romel Pascual, Executive Director of CicLAvia, fondly reflects, “Every October, returning to the route where CicLAvia began is a powerful reminder of how far we’ve come. Heart of L.A. shows what our streets can become when designed for people, not just cars.”
