Traveling soon? Important information on measles exposures at trains and events.

The U.S. is facing a significant resurgence of measles, with over 3,600 confirmed cases reported as of late September, mainly among unvaccinated individuals. This resurgence has resulted in two deaths, although the exact causes remain disputed.

The CDC underscores the contagious nature of measles, which can spread through the air, infecting about 15 to 18 people if they are susceptible.

Experts emphasize vaccination as the primary defense, recommending that individuals confirm their vaccination status, particularly travelers entering the U.S. from abroad. Infants aged 6-11 months may receive an early dose of the MMR vaccine if traveling internationally.

California and St. Louis have notified residents of potential exposures linked to recent cases. Those exposed are advised to monitor for symptoms and may need to quarantine if unvaccinated.

For individuals who are vaccinated, experts reassure that there is little cause for concern, though wearing masks in crowded areas could provide additional peace of mind.
