Bourbon & Beyond 2026: A Celebration of Music, Culture, and Kentucky
Location: Kentucky Exposition Center, Louisville
Dates: September 2026
For two epic weekends every September, Danny Wimmer Presents transforms the Highland Festival Grounds at the Kentucky Exposition Center into a music paradise. The festival kicks off with Louder Than Life, focusing on hard rock and metal, before transitioning to Bourbon & Beyond, which showcases a diverse range of genres including rock, country, Americana, and bluegrass. In 2025, it was announced that both festivals will remain at this site through 2035, drawing record crowds—nearly 400,000 fans across the two weekends this year.
Atmosphere and Amenities
Bourbon & Beyond 2026 was the biggest yet, featuring over 100 artists performing across five stages. Attendees discovered that the sprawling festival grounds played a significant role in the experience. The venue was easy to navigate, with ample shady spots, short lines for food and drinks, and numerous places to rest between performances.
One unique highlight was Kentucky Kingdom, allowing festivalgoers to enjoy amusement park rides without leaving the grounds.
A Deep Dive into Kentucky Culture
Festival organizers emphasized more than just the music. Attendees enjoyed bourbon tastings, culinary demonstrations, and engaging conversations at the Fork & Flask stage, creating a rich tapestry of Kentucky culture. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear even announced the creation of the Governor’s Office of Music, designed to support local artists and venues.
Musical Highlights
Opening Day: The lineup featured powerhouses like Gary Clark Jr., Goose, and Foo Fighters. Goose’s performance captivated newcomers with their improvisational style, while Foo Fighters closed with a heartfelt tribute to their band members’ musical journeys.
Day Two: Featured artists included Chris Stapleton, who serenaded fans with his soulful voice under a rising full moon.
Closing Day: The festival wrapped up with another incredible lineup featuring Dave Matthews Band, ensuring an unforgettable finale.
The Evolution of Bourbon & Beyond
Originally centered around bourbon, the festival is gradually expanding its identity. This year’s branding began shifting toward “& Beyond,” signifying an enriched experience involving music, food, and Kentucky culture at large.
