Fall Foliage Report in Green Bay
GREEN BAY, Wis. – According to Travel Wisconsin’s fall color report, fall foliage in Green Bay has reached about 20% color progression, with peak vibrancy expected in the fourth week of October.
Tracking the Color Progression
Last year, Travel Wisconsin’s interactive color report attracted 1.4 million visitors. The report utilizes over 100 volunteer reporters from Wisconsin’s 72 counties to track color changes, employing a scale similar to a progress bar.
Hannah Wickstrom serves as the sole color spotter for Brown County, monitoring areas such as Algoma, Denmark, Pulaski, and Howard-Suamico. She reports on the vibrancy of fall colors, helping to gauge how quickly trees are transitioning from greens to vibrant reds and yellows.
“I see where the progression is changing… and then I determine what percentage we are from where we’re at until I predict the peak,” Wickstrom shared.
Wickstrom has developed a greater appreciation for seasonal changes, making a point to notice the first yellow leaves to the last brown ones that fall.
Where to See Color Now
As Green Bay is 20% away from peak vibrancy, the most vivid locations currently include:
- Bay Shore Park
- Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary
- UW-Green Bay campus
“I like to come out to Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary or Barkhausen Waterfowl Reserve,” Wickstrom noted, emphasizing her preference for observing leaves along the water where changes occur more rapidly.
Statewide Picture
Wisconsin’s northern counties, including Mercer, Phillips, and Southern Price County, are reporting up to 70% color vibrancy. Shawano and Oshkosh are also notable, showing 50% color with similar peak predictions as Green Bay.
Amanda Weibel, a communications officer for Travel Wisconsin, highlighted the value of the report for planning trips around peak color times, noting, “You are likely going to find those pockets of absolutely stunning fall color.”
