Ipswich Cultural Council’s 40th Annual Town Art Show
The Ipswich Cultural Council (ICC) is celebrating its 40th annual Town Art Show, a cherished local tradition that began when the council was still known as the arts council. The first show attracted around 40 submissions, displayed in Town Hall’s junior high cafeteria. Over the years, this event has flourished, now showcasing approximately 185 original works annually, with submissions doubling this year.
Event Details:
- Opening Reception: Friday, Oct. 2, from 6 to 9 p.m. featuring live music.
- Exhibit Hours:
- Saturday, Oct. 3: 12 to 5 p.m.
- Sunday, Oct. 4: 12 to 4 p.m.
The show features diverse mediums, including photography, textiles, paintings, and sculptures, all crafted by Ipswich residents or town employees. It is a non-juried event, allowing all artists to display their work. Each piece is treated with great respect, and the ICC awards three prizes, including a people’s choice award voted on by attendees.
This event also serves as a fundraiser for the ICC, distributing 80% of sales to artists and retaining 20% to support the council’s initiatives in creating cultural opportunities in Ipswich, in partnership with the Mass Cultural Council.
McGrath, a council member, emphasized the joy of providing visibility to local artists, stating, “It’s the visibility we give to artists who would not have another venue to show their art in that gives more joy than I can express.”
Support Local Art
Participating in this event not only showcases the talents of local artists but also helps sustain cultural opportunities in the community.
