X-energy has announced an expansion of its Gaithersburg headquarters at Washingtonian Center, adding around 24,000 square feet to its existing space, bringing the total to approximately 145,000 square feet. This increase follows a significant lease deal and consolidates its two Rockville offices into one location. The expansion is expected to retain 260 jobs while creating over 525 additional positions in the next six years.
The space was previously vacated by major tenants like Sodexo and Covance, but X-energy’s growth has helped fill much of the vacancy in the building. Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation supported X-energy with local incentives and resources.
County Executive Marc Elrich expressed excitement about the expansion, emphasizing its positive impact on job creation and clean energy innovation in the county. Additionally, X-energy plans to build a 90,000-square-foot facility in Frederick for non-nuclear testing and prototyping of advanced reactor components, indicating the company’s ambitious growth trajectory.
