Coastal Storm Causes Significant Flooding in Ocean City, MD
OCEAN CITY, MD – A recent coastal storm has resulted in flooding across several low-lying streets in Ocean City, with persistent onshore winds exacerbating the situation. Streets like St. Louis Avenue, south of 14th Street, and Philadelphia Avenue, south of the Route 50 Bridge, have seen significant water accumulation, prompting police to advise drivers to seek alternate routes.

Standing water has covered portions of both roads, endangering some vehicles which have risked traversing through areas with water levels approaching one foot deep. The Ocean City Police Department indicated that the flooding conditions could be worse than typical high tide levels due to ongoing onshore winds.
The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Warning, forecasting potential water surges of 2 to 3 feet above ground in low-lying coastal areas. One resident remarked he preferred to run errands on foot rather than risk damage to his vehicle by driving through the flooded streets.
“With persistent onshore winds, flooding may be more significant than what the normal tide times alone would suggest,” the police department emphasized.
Drivers are strongly advised against attempting to navigate flooded areas or standing water where water depth may be uncertain. The police recommend that individuals familiarize themselves with their routes, slow down, and check conditions before heading out.
Locals have expressed concern, with some noting this flooding as the most severe they have witnessed in the past three years of living in Ocean City. They hope the conditions improve soon to allow safe travel throughout the town.
Flooding is also a concern near the Ocean City Inlet, where portions of the inlet parking area have been inundated with water. Debris can be seen moving through the water, including materials associated with the canceled Oceans Calling festival, which was halted due to worsening weather.

In conclusion, due to the storm, the Ocean City police are continuously reminding the public to avoid flooded streets and to take precautions when traveling through the area. The combination of high water, strong winds, and rough surf poses risks to vehicles, homes, and businesses along the waterfront.
