Complimentary Home Energy Assessments Assist PNM Customers in Reducing Costs

Free Home Energy Checkups for PNM Customers

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — PNM is offering free home energy checkups to help customers improve their energy efficiency and lower their electric bills, with both in-person and virtual options available.

The process begins with a visit from a PNM energy ambassador, such as Anthony Altamirano, who conducts the checkups.

“We’ll walk around the home together, look at doors, windows, heating, cooling, appliances, anything that affects energy use,” Altamirano explained.

Recently, Altamirano inspected various appliances and checked areas where air could be escaping, such as older windows and weather stripping.

The checkups also include on-the-spot fixes, like replacing weather stripping and swapping out older light bulbs for energy-efficient LEDs.

Energy-Saving Tips:

  • Re-caulking windows when cracks appear
  • Regularly replacing air filters
  • Turning off lights when leaving a room
  • Using thick curtains or blinds to block sunlight
  • Keeping freezers full to reduce energy use

With cooler weather arriving, PNM Spokesperson Eric Chavez emphasized the importance of seasonal checkups:

“It’s a great opportunity to make sure what you want to stay in the house stays there and what you want to stay outside stays outside.”

After the checkup, customers receive a report with recommendations and potential rebate information.
