The Netherlands has signed a letter of intent with Electro Optic Systems (EOS) to explore the potential deployment of EOS’s Apollo high-energy laser weapon technology for counter-drone defense. State Secretary for Defence Derk Boswijk emphasized ongoing discussions about making Apollo fully operational in the Netherlands, including the possibility of establishing a local production facility supported by a European supply chain.
Apollo uses energy to create a high-power laser beam, providing an alternative to traditional kinetic air defense systems. EOS has reported successful tests against drones, and the Dutch Ministry of Defence is considering purchasing multiple systems, pending further assessments.
