Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Raafat Hindy, recently met with Sherif Mohamed Abdel Fattah from Intro Group to discuss plans for a new data center in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE). Named the Kemet Data Center, this facility aims to be the first Tier III data center in the SCZONE, with an investment of nearly $270 million for its initial 80 MW buildout. Engineering designs are complete, and contracts with equipment suppliers have been finalized.
During the meeting, Hindy emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to fostering an investment-friendly environment for the data center industry, encouraging private sector investment to capitalize on the country’s competitive advantages. The Kemet Data Center will provide cloud and IoT solutions, serving as a hub for enterprises needing advanced cloud computing infrastructure.
Additionally, earlier this month, a collaboration involving Vodafone Business, Elsewedy Electric Group, and Cassava Technologies was announced, aiming to build out data centers in Egypt with an initial capacity of 20 MW, scaling to 200 MW and attracting up to $1 billion in investment.
The Egyptian data center market, valued at $305 million in 2025, is projected to grow to $865 million by 2031, spurred by government support and rising demand in AI, machine learning, big data, and IoT. Capacity is expected to increase significantly, reaching 254 MW by 2031.
