Lee County Mobile Pet Groomers Raise Prices as Gas Costs Climb
In Lee County, Florida, mobile pet groomers are facing the challenge of rising gas prices, currently exceeding $4 per gallon. This increase is impacting businesses that rely on fuel for transportation.
Mary Starkloff, owner of Star Pet Salon and a mobile groomer, shared her concerns, stating, “I might have to raise my prices because the gas is just way too expensive. I’m dipping into my own pay.” Despite her efforts to avoid passing costs onto clients, rising fuel expenses have left her with no alternative.
Starkloff explained that filling her truck costs about $75, and maintaining her generator—which powers her mobile grooming business—adds another $40 in fuel costs. With backup fuel also required, her total fuel expenses exceed $75.
She noted that many clients are also feeling financial pressure, which makes raising prices contentious. “If I have to raise my prices, they’re going to try and find something cheaper,” she worried.
While Starkloff hopes the price hikes are temporary, she appreciates the support from the community during these challenging times.
