Warning Issued for Lake Watauga Due to Harmful Algae Bloom

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Metro Parks is advising the public and pet owners to avoid Lake Watauga in Centennial Park after a cyanobacterial bloom, a potentially toxic type of algae, was discovered.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation identified the bloom, prompting Metro Parks to erect warning signs and advise caution. Staff are currently testing water samples to assess the severity of the situation, with lab results expected next week.

While all four turbulators in the lake are operational and treatment is underway, officials stress the importance of staying out of the water for safety reasons.
