Dawnwalker Review
Visual Presentation
Dawnwalker, powered by Unreal Engine 5, showcases impressive visuals, especially in its cutscenes, which stand out against its gameplay models. The character model viewer in the journal highlights this contrast. Despite the minor discrepancies, the game is aesthetically pleasing for a debut studio, with environments richly designed, evoking themes of death and decay.
Audio Design
The audio experience is solid, featuring a memorable soundtrack and familiar sound effects reminiscent of The Witcher 3. It’s intriguing to encounter a few glitches akin to those in its predecessor. The sound design and voice acting are standout features, especially the performance by Will de Renzy-Martin, who brings nuances reminiscent of Doug Cockle and occasionally echoes Tom Hiddleston’s take on Loki. Overall, the voice performances enhance the immersive experience.
Gameplay Mechanics
Initially, the game’s timer was a concern, but its thoughtful implementation and the opportunities it presents in navigating choices have improved my opinion. Rebel Wolves has crafted a captivating world filled with interesting characters, lore, and a compelling story. Despite revealing future plot points for Coen, there’s plenty to explore and enjoy. The world of Dawnwalker invites players to dive deep and discover every hidden detail.
