Actis Introduces Yeltica Energy, a Fresh Renewable Energy Initiative in Mexico

Actis Launches Yeltica Energy: A New Renewable Energy Platform in Mexico

Actis, a prominent investor in sustainable infrastructure, has unveiled Yeltica Energy, a greenfield renewable energy platform in Mexico, aiming for over 2GW of generation capacity.

As one of the largest private energy investors in Mexico, Actis has previously owned and exited companies like Zuma Energia, Saavi Energia, and Atlas Renewable Energy, and currently operates the 3.2GW gas platform Valia Energia.

Yeltica Energy will initiate its operations with three solar-plus-storage projects that collectively produce approximately 330MWp of solar PV and 255MWh of battery storage, awarded through Mexico’s Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) under the first Mixed Investment Tender. These projects have secured contracted 25-year cash flows, US dollar-denominated and inflation-indexed, backed by CFE.

The platform plans to expand its capacity through additional public tenders and partnerships with developers and offtakers, targeting a portfolio that includes solar, wind, and battery storage.

José Luis García, CEO, brings over 25 years of energy sector experience, having previously led Zelestra LATAM and Zuma Energia, contributing significantly to renewable asset development in the region.

Mexico’s reforms under the Power Sector Development Plan (PLADESE) 2025-2039 aim to add 75GW of new generation capacity, predominantly from clean sources, emphasizing a partnership between CFE and private investors to address rising energy demands.

As part of its ambitions, Mexico aspires to increase its renewable electricity share to 38% by 2030, from around 20% today, with goals of adding 32GW of new generation capacity, largely from renewables.

Alberto Estefan, Managing Director of Energy Infrastructure at Actis, noted the market’s compelling nature, underscoring rising demand and policy frameworks that encourage private capital investments.

José Luis García echoed this sentiment, highlighting the positive momentum in the Mexican energy sector and Yeltica Energy’s robust start.

In addition to its renewable initiatives, Actis is also investing in data centers in Mexico through platforms like Terranova and NextStream.
