AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D demonstrates less sensitivity to high-speed DDR5 memory than competing CPUs, according to recent benchmarks by TechPowerUp. Testing eight different DDR5 configurations revealed only a 2% performance difference between the fastest (DDR5-6000) and slowest (DDR5-4800) memory kits across various games at 1080p, 1440p, and 4K resolutions, using an RTX 4090 graphics card.
The benchmarks featured games such as Palworld, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Elden Ring, showing minimal variation in frame rates. For instance, in Palworld, all configurations generated a consistent 119 FPS average. In Baldur’s Gate 3, the fastest kit achieved 178.97 FPS, just 6.24 FPS ahead of the slowest. Notably, some titles like Elden Ring showed barely any difference in performance, indicating that the chip’s substantial 64MB L3 cache reduces reliance on faster memory.
This efficiency is particularly beneficial for gamers amid the ongoing DRAM shortage affecting DDR5 prices. Overall, the findings suggest that even slower DDR5 memory can deliver strong gaming performance with the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, making it a cost-effective choice.
