Quick Summary
Plaion, the manufacturer of the NeoGeo AES+ console, has announced that component shortages are causing delays in its reissue. Initially expected to launch sooner, the release is now scheduled for September 2027 after encountering sourcing issues with flash chips.
Details
The NeoGeo AES+ has been highly anticipated since pre-orders began earlier this year. However, as orders surged, Plaion faced an unexpected hurdle: they were unable to procure the necessary parallel NOR flash chips, a revelation that almost halted the project entirely.
Ben Jones from Plaion described how they had to redesign the system. Fortunately, they found an alternative solution using serial NOR flash chips for the console’s cartridges, enabling the project to move forward.
Despite the setback, Plaion is prepared with thousands of chips on hand and will begin shipping the console on September 16, 2027. The NeoGeo AES+ console will retail for £179.99, while individual cartridges will be priced from £69.99 / €79.95. Pre-orders remain open, allowing fans to secure theirs in advance.
