Volunteers Provide Free Veterinary Services to Abandoned Pets in a Small Mexican Town

A group of dedicated volunteers and veterinarians traveled to Sasabe, Sonora, to assist abandoned dogs and cats, left behind by owners fleeing violence from local cartels. With the streets now largely empty, the volunteers aim to provide care for over 200 animals in the area, setting up a temporary clinic to offer essential medical services, including vaccinations and free sterilizations.

Veterinarians from various states, including California and Ohio, joined the effort, working alongside passionate volunteers who are committed to helping the animals. One volunteer, David Damian Figueroa, emphasized the importance of caring for these neglected pets, while Cristobal Alvarez shared his plans to find homes for them.

The community’s ongoing efforts highlight the need for responsible pet ownership and the impact of violence on vulnerable animals.
