The 23rd Annual Latino Film Festival kicked off in the Hamptons on Saturday, celebrating Hispanic culture through storytelling. Hosted by Organización Latino Americana (OLA), the festival coincides with Hispanic Heritage Month, but organizers emphasize its year-round mission of celebrating identity.

Executive Director Minerva Perez highlighted the festival’s significance, stating that it reflects the diverse experiences of the community. This year’s theme, “Courage and Truth,” focuses on themes of belonging, migration, and resilience. One notable film featured is Island of Dreams, a documentary by Alvaro Jimenez about Cubans pursuing their dreams despite ongoing challenges.

The festival aims to not only entertain but also to foster empathy and cultural pride, encouraging meaningful conversations that might lead to community transformation. It wraps up Sunday with a screening of Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado, with films presented in Spanish and English subtitles.
