Cameron Ali Fay’s Comedy Concept ‘We Are Your Pets’ Acquired by Universal

Universal Pictures has secured the rights to “We Are Your Pets,” a family comedy pitch written by Cameron Ali Fay, with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment attached to produce.

Plot details remain confidential; however, Fay initially pitched the idea to Amblin, which subsequently brought it to Universal. Erik Baiers, Senior EVP of Production Development, is overseeing the project.

Cameron Ali Fay is an Iranian-American multi-hyphenate, making his directorial debut with the romantic comedy “Maybe It’s You” for Universal/Peacock. He has also written various projects, including an action comedy for Byron Allen’s Entertainment Studios and “Thorny Rose,” with Paul Feig directing. Fay adapted “There’s a Word for That” for Hilary Swank and wrote “Brother Nature” for Paramount.

A co-founder of the WGA’s Middle Eastern Writers Committee and the only person selected for both Sony’s writers’ and directors’ programs, Fay is also set to direct two of his Black List scripts: “This Is Going to Hurt” and “Until You” for Di Novi Pictures. He’s represented by Paradigm, Kaplan/Perrone, and Lichter, Grossman, Nichols.

Amblin’s upcoming projects include Spielberg’s “Disclosure Day,” “Gremlins 3,” Alex Kister’s “The Mandela Catalogue,” and Zach Cregger’s “The Flood.”
