Why are reviewers and long-time PlayStation fans criticizing Marvel’s Wolverine?

It seems that “Marvel’s Wolverine,” developed by Insomniac Games, has not lived up to expectations, especially when compared to their successes like the “Spider-Man” franchise. Initially, the game was anticipated to be a strong contender for PlayStation as a first-party exclusive due to Insomniac’s impressive track record, including the popular “Ratchet & Clank” series.

However, upon its release on September 15, reviews indicated that it fell short, with a Metacritic score of 6.7. While critics rated it slightly higher with a 77 Metascore based on 128 reviews, the game faced significant criticism for offering too much “hand-holding” and a lack of creativity. Notably, YouTuber Ralph Panebianco highlighted these issues, suggesting that the game was designed with an overly simplistic approach.

Players reported a linear gameplay experience with constant directional prompts and minimal opportunities for exploration, alongside various bugs. Although the story and voice acting received praise, many were disappointed that a game with a substantial budget of approximately $300 million could not meet the high standards set by Insomniac’s prior titles.

Compounding the frustration is its full price of $69.99, which many fans feel does not reflect the limited combat system and runtime of around 15 hours. Overall, this turn of events leaves fans puzzled and disheartened regarding the game’s quality.
