Rising Fuel Costs Impacting Travel Plans
RANDOLPH, Mass. — As fuel prices increase and holiday flights begin to fill up, families are grappling with how these costs will affect their travel decisions.
Many drivers are already feeling the pinch. Colleen, a local driver, shared her experience: “I only filled up $10 because it is pricey and it adds up very quickly.”
When planning road trips, drivers must also factor in additional expenses like tolls and parking.
“It’s not a good time for anyone who uses fuel, whether you’re heating your home, driving your car, or flying planes,” said AAA Spokesperson Mark Schieldrop.
Airlines are particularly affected: jet fuel constitutes a significant operational cost. Consequently, increasing oil and fuel costs lead to higher flight expenses. Schieldrop noted, “To offset expensive jet fuel, airlines have consolidated routes and reduced the number of flights, which means fewer travel options for consumers.”
Travelers at Logan Airport are already adjusting their plans due to these rising costs. One traveler expressed their frustration: “Am I happy with it? Not really, but we have to do what we have to do.”
Experts advise that the best strategy is to begin planning and booking now, as waiting could limit options and lead to higher expenses.
