Auburn Rec Offers Free Group Fitness Forever

Embrace Fitness at Auburn University: Free Group Classes for All

The Auburn University Campus Recreational Center, affectionately known as “The Rec,” is excited to announce the introduction of free group fitness classes for all students—forever! Starting in Spring 2026, students can register for these dynamic classes through the Auburn Rec’s RWC Connect website. Best of all, these classes are included in student tuition, making fitness accessible for everyone.

Since opening in 2013, The Rec has proudly offered a variety of group fitness classes. These sessions not only foster fitness habits but also provide relief from academic stress while cultivating a vibrant community among Auburn’s students and staff.

Diverse Class Offerings

The Rec’s group fitness classes are designed to fit all skill levels, making them an excellent choice for newcomers and seasoned fitness enthusiasts alike. With 24 distinct classes available—including sunrise yoga, tigerpump, Pilates, and Zumba—there’s something for everyone. Most classes are offered daily, allowing participants to choose a schedule that fits their busy lives.

Classes primarily take place in different classrooms throughout The Rec. For those who need to stay updated on the week’s schedule, the Auburn Campus Recreation app provides real-time information on available classes.

Registering for Classes

From January 2026 onwards, all group fitness classes will be included in the student recreation fee at no additional cost. Students can easily register for unlimited classes via RWC or the Auburn Campus Recreation app using their Tiger ID. Instructions for registration are provided on The Rec’s website, or students can visit the help desk in The Rec lobby for assistance.

Susie Weigel, the assistant director of group fitness at The Rec, emphasizes the goal of the new initiative: “We launched the ‘Group Fitness Forever Free’ campaign to lower barriers to participation and build vibrant communities within our fitness classes. With the $50 group fitness pass eliminated, we warmly invite everyone to join in. We aim to provide support, fun, and camaraderie as participants strive toward their health and wellness objectives.”

Opportunities for Connection and Mindfulness

Group fitness classes are available throughout the week, accommodating student schedules to improve academic life balance. These offerings align with Auburn’s commitment to enhancing student wellness and fostering a sense of routine and belonging.

For students seeking a gentler approach to fitness, Mindful Mondays offer meditation-based sessions every Monday at 4 p.m., focusing on mental well-being and relaxation—absolutely free for students.

“I love that there are no longer fees for attending classes, allowing participants to explore new options without financial stress,” shares Emily Otto, a group fitness instructor at The Rec. “I enjoy welcoming new faces; the more, the merrier!”

Get Involved

Students and staff interested in getting involved with group fitness can apply to become instructors, regardless of experience. Opportunities are available year-round for those who wish to lead classes.

Additionally, individual reservations for personal training sessions with Auburn Recreation and Wellness professionals can be made by submitting a request through the professional request form.

Non-students, including faculty and staff, are also welcome to participate in these innovative fitness classes, making it an inclusive environment for the entire Auburn community.

A Complete Fitness Experience

If structured group classes aren’t your preference, The Rec offers top-notch equipment for individual workouts.
