NBC4 and Telemundo 44 Celebrate Successful Adoption Event
2,800 Pets Find New Homes in D.C. Area During Clear The Shelters 2026 Campaign
NBC4 and Telemundo 44 proudly announced that 2,800 pets were adopted from local animal shelters during the Clear The Shelters initiative, presented by Hill’s Pet Nutrition. This annual event, held every August, brings together NBC- and Telemundo-owned stations with shelters and rescue organizations to promote pet adoption and generate funds for these vital institutions.
This year’s campaign saw over 100 stations collaborate with more than 1,200 shelters across 47 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and Guam. The collective efforts resulted in over 135,000 pets finding loving homes and raised nearly $500,000 for participating shelters.
Since its inception in 2015, Clear The Shelters has led to nearly 1.5 million adoptions and raised over $6 million for animal shelters nationwide.
This year’s campaign was made possible through a partnership with long-time collaborator and first-time presenting sponsor Hill’s Pet Nutrition, along with campaign partners Greater Good Charities, WeRescue, and The Black Dog.
Inspired by a successful North Texas pet adoption event in 2014, Clear The Shelters continues to make a significant impact on the lives of pets and families across the nation.
