The Perrysburg Fire Department has recently received special oxygen masks designed for pets, enhancing their ability to treat animals affected by smoke inhalation during fires. These masks were donated by Invisible Fence of Northwest Ohio and aim to save the estimated 40,000 pets that die each year in U.S. house fires due to smoke inhalation, as well as help the 500,000 pets that suffer long-term health effects.
Pets often hide during fires, exposing themselves to harmful smoke and gases, and traditional human oxygen masks are not suitable for animals. The new kits include various sizes of masks to accommodate different animals and are compatible with existing fire department equipment.
Similar donations were made to Toledo first responders earlier this year, ensuring that local fire departments are better equipped to treat pets like valued family members during emergencies.
