Disney Entertainment has announced major executive changes within its senior leadership team. Adam Smith has been appointed as chairman of direct-to-consumer (DTC) for the division, overseeing Disney+ and Hulu’s product, engineering, advertising technology, programming, and analytics. Joe Earley, previously co-president of DTC, takes on a new role as president of Disney Entertainment Television franchise and content strategy.
Additionally, Eric Schrier will depart his position as head of DTC international originals and will instead pursue a producing deal with Disney Entertainment Television. Smith, who joined Disney two years ago from YouTube, aims to unify DTC efforts under one executive. This restructuring is viewed as essential for enhancing Disney+ as the company’s “digital centerpiece.”
OConnell commended Smith’s leadership and contributions, while Smith expressed pride in his team’s achievements and aspirations for Disney+. Earley will focus on strategic development for TV franchises and international original content. Finally, Schrier, a veteran at Disney, aims to return to his creative roots through a new partnership with DET.
The changes come amid a dynamic shift within Disney’s entertainment landscape, aiming to deepen audience engagement and capitalize on the company’s vast IP library.
