Dolly Parton posthumously accepted a lifetime achievement award via a video recorded before her death. The Queen of Country, who passed away last month at 80, received the honor at the Americana Honors & Awards in Nashville on Wednesday night.
In the video, she expressed her gratitude, stating, “Well, hey, it’s Dolly, and I am so honored to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Americana Music Association.” She reflected on her beginnings in Americana music in the Smoky Mountains and highlighted her 1998 album, “Hungry Again,” as pivotal in her career, leading to a series of bluegrass and acoustic albums.
Parton referred to this time as a “musical renaissance” and thanked the AMA for the recognition, concluding with, “It’s a great honor, truly, and just know that I will always love you.”
Emmylou Harris paid tribute to Parton during the ceremony, recalling her early career milestones and her determination to achieve more than just being a sidekick on Porter Wagoner’s show. Harris emphasized that Dolly’s impact and warmth were felt throughout her life and in her final message.
Parton’s family announced her passing on August 25, sharing that she died after a brief battle with cancer at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, surrounded by loved ones.
