Nepal is set to launch a ‘Passport-Free Travel’ system for foreign nationals, allowing them to traverse the country without needing to carry physical passports. This initiative, proposed to the Ministry of Home Affairs, requires foreigners to download the Department of Immigration’s app, available on Android and iOS, where they must input their passport and visa details.
Once registered, travelers won’t have to present their passports for domestic flights, currency exchanges, or trekking arrangements. The app will also facilitate necessary inquiries by police without the need for a physical passport. This system aims to enhance the travel experience for tourists while enabling authorities to monitor foreign nationals in Nepal efficiently.
