Numerous music acts have withdrawn from their upcoming performances with Ed Sheeran amid controversy surrounding his tour. Finneas, Aaron Rowe, pop band Lukas Graham, and the Irish folk group Beoga announced their exits on social media, following rapper Macklemore’s removal from the tour due to his pro-Palestinian messages.
Finneas expressed solidarity with Palestine in his statement, asserting the importance of artists speaking out against oppression. Rowe echoed this sentiment, referencing Ireland’s historical struggles. Sheeran stated his removal of Macklemore was pressured by concert promoters and venue owners, including billionaire Robert Kraft, who emphasized the need to maintain a welcoming space at his stadium.
Lukas Graham criticized the influence of wealth on artistic expression, arguing that financial power should not dictate whose voices are heard. Macklemore had faced backlash for his performances promoting Palestinian independence but clarified that his criticisms of Israel were not aimed at Jewish people. Despite the controversy, he expressed hope for his continued friendship with Sheeran.
