Prince Harry and Meghan Move Children to New School Over Security Concerns
LONDON – Prince Harry and Meghan have relocated their two children, Archie and Lilibet, to a new school due to security considerations, a spokesperson announced on Tuesday. This decision comes shortly after the family returned to the U.K. for a fresh start.
A statement from the spokesperson indicated that the move followed discussions with the family’s security team regarding the practicalities of their current arrangements. Archie, aged 7, and Lilibet, aged 5, had just started the new school year in England after relocating from California at the end of August.
British media have reported concerns about the school run’s distance and heavy traffic as factors prompting the decision. The family is currently residing in a private, non-royal home outside London.
The spokesperson emphasized that this decision does not reflect negatively on the previous school or the care the children received there. The announcement follows reports that Harry and Meghan are awaiting a new risk assessment from a government committee responsible for the protection of VIPs, which will determine if they are entitled to publicly funded security now that they are back in the U.K.
Since giving up their royal duties and relocating to California over six years ago, Harry and Meghan have signed lucrative contracts with Netflix and Spotify. While tensions with the royal family have escalated during this time, Harry has recently expressed a desire for reconciliation to spend more time with his father, King Charles III.
Harry has been advocating for the reinstatement of publicly funded police protection, which was revoked when the couple stepped back from royal duties. He has noted the importance of security guarantees for the safety of his family when returning to the U.K.
Earlier this month, King Charles reiterated that Harry and Meghan are non-working members of the royal family and will not use formal royal titles. The couple expressed surprise regarding the manner in which the statement was delivered, as they were given little time to review it.
