Gov. Tony Evers Strengthens Economic Ties with France
MADISON (WKOW) — Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers announced a new partnership between the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) and the Agence Économique Régionale (AER) of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (BFC) region in France. This memorandum of understanding aims to enhance economic and educational relations.
The agreement will facilitate the exchange of expertise, foster collaborative projects, and support growth in both territories. “This partnership is a significant step toward ensuring ongoing growth and stability for our businesses and economies,” Evers stated.
The collaboration stems from a 2025 trade mission to France and Germany, where similarities in economic characteristics, including strong manufacturing and agriculture sectors, were identified.
WEDC CEO John W. Miller highlighted Wisconsin’s rich tradition of education and innovation, positioning it as a suitable partner for global collaboration. The MOU outlines four key areas for cooperation: agri-food, energy, advanced manufacturing, and biotherapies/health sciences.
BFC President Jérôme Durain expressed enthusiasm for concrete projects arising from the agreement. Durain plans to lead a delegation back to Wisconsin and Chicago in October, focusing on specific sectors.
Last year, Evers’ visit led to a partnership between AER and Wisconsin’s BioForward in biotherapies and healthcare. This new agreement signals ongoing efforts to strengthen international ties, as Evers’ summer trade mission to Ghana and South Africa marks his fourth as governor.
