Explore the Globe with Ice Age Adventures

The Arctic Radiation-Cloud-Aerosol-Surface Interaction Experiment (ARCSIX) involves NASA researchers studying the influence of clouds on ice sheet melting. Using sea planes, they collect data on atmospheric profiles and cloud properties, employing three aircraft: a G3 jet, a Learjet, and a P3 plane with the science team. The mission aims to gather insights on cloud types that satellites cannot characterize, utilizing advanced instruments like the Maverik laser cannon.

Findings indicate weakened ice in northeastern Greenland, which may lead to increased melting and breakage, raising concerns about the potential for permanent ice loss by 2035 or earlier. This research is crucial for understanding the rapid warming of polar seas, its effects on ocean dynamics, and impacts on the global climate system.
